Be Accountable for Every Worked Hour
When a client asks "how many hours did you spend?", you should have the answer in two seconds.
Freelancers who bill by the hour need accurate time records. But most time tracking tools are either too complex (Toggl, Harvest) or too simple (a spreadsheet column).
The real problem? Time tracking lives in a separate app from your actual work. So you forget to log, you estimate badly, and you end up undercharging.
Log time where you work
In Backlog, logging time is as fast as creating any other entry. Type what you worked on, pick "timetracking", enter the hours (in 0.25h increments), tag the client, done.
It takes five seconds. You can do it right after finishing a task, while the number is still accurate.
See the totals
Your dashboard shows total hours per month in the 12-month grid. Open a client profile and you see hours logged specifically for them.
When the client asks "how many hours this month?", you open their profile, look at the grid, and answer. Two seconds.
Hours + income = your real rate
Because Backlog also tracks income per client, you can quickly see your effective hourly rate. If you logged 40 hours for a client and earned €2,000, that's €50/hour. If another client paid €1,000 for 30 hours, that's €33/hour. Now you know which clients to prioritize.
This is what Backlog does.
